I've resolved the above issue after multiple changes to the samba config. In the end the issue was down to one entry in the smb.conf
kerberos method = system keytab
Solution - delete and it uses secret.
Now I've moved slightly further. I see the network share now. When I attempt to open the file share from windows checking samba.log I see these errors
It's as if its expecting the windows username to exist on my AIX server. Do I need to manually add the user to my AIX box or is there a way to have AIX automatically log this user on regardless if they have an account on the AIX system. For example can I force them to logon as the oracle user?

First, let me start off saying this is not spam. This is me trying to help out other AIX Admins with MS AD servers. If it is not applicable to you, someone else will find it useful.
As long as the "KDC" service is running on your AD server, these steps should work. There should be no... (3 Replies)

smbd(1M) System Administration Commands smbd(1M)NAME
smbd - CIFS server daemon
SYNOPSIS
/usr/lib/smbsrv/smbd
DESCRIPTION
The smbd daemon handles CIFS/SMB requests from CIFS clients, such as Windows clients. Only processes with {PRIV_SYS_SMB} and sufficient
privileges to write the /var/run directory can run this daemon.
The smbd daemon is automatically invoked by using the sharemgr command over all available transports. By default, smbd starts over the Net-
BIOS-Over-TCP (NBT) and TCP transports.
When smbd is started over NBT, the following services are started:
o The NetBIOS name service is started on UDP port 137.
o The NetBIOS datagram service is started on UDP port 138.
o The NetBIOS session service is started on TCP port 139.
When the smbd daemon is started over TCP, the CIFS service is started on TCP port 445.
Only one instance of smbd may be running at a time.
EXIT STATUS
The following exit values are returned:
0 Daemon exited cleanly.
95 Daemon exited with a fatal error.
96 Daemon exited with a configuration error.
