Vscsi sadly only supports disk and optical devices (CD / DVD) at the moment, i.e. tapes are currently not supported.
You could be brave and script the dlpar operation, then schedule a backup on one LPAR, then give it time to finish, scripted DLPAR the adapter to the other LPAR and then back that up. Use cron or similar to run the backup in the window that the LPAR has the adapter for.

Okay. I admit I'm sort of a newbie in this regard.
I installed a SCSI adapter on a Sun Ultra 5 workstation. I did the standard STOP-A on the startup and got the OK prompt. I then tried probe-scsi-all. It dumps me back @ the OK prompt w/ no message whatsoever. I tried probe-scsi, nothing.

There are rumors that some bad "passive" adapters with problematic termination can fry the HDD. The adapter we got is Assmann ABSCA-2. Hard drive is 'Fujitsu MAW3073NC'

I am at a loss with a VIO server running ios 2.2.0.10-FP-24 SP-01. The VIO server is fitted with two 8Gb PCI Express Dual Port FC Adapters. However when I run the lsnports command only two of the adapter ports show as capable:

DESCRIPTION
This utility is used to manage Bluetooth adapters. You can list all available adapters, show information about adapter, change adapter

Specify adapter to use by his Name or MAC address

ADAPTER PROPERTIES

The pairable timeout in seconds. A value of zero
means that the timeout is disabled and it will stay in

The discoverable timeout in seconds. A value of zero
means that the timeout is disabled and it will stay in
discoverable/limited mode forever.
The default value for the discoverable timeout should
be 180 seconds (3 minutes).
boolean Discovering [ro]
Indicates that a device discovery procedure is active.
list UUIDs [ro]
List of 128-bit UUIDs that represents the available local
services.
