[SOLVED] Permission Denied

Hi Experts,

When I try to run the bash script (Script.sh) I see this error. my file permissions are -rwxrwxr
Quote:
Log.txt : Permission Denied
Am I missing anything here?

Thank you

I tried doing
Quote:
chmod 777 log.txt
but no luck

I assume both "Script.sh" and "Log.txt" are set as you require as it seems the error might be from "Script.sh".

Bazza...

EDIT:

Also are you sure nothing else is already accessing "Log.txt"?

Even if something else was accessing Log.txt you would not get 'permission denied', UNIX does not mandatory lock things like that.

777 is not the magic sledgehammer to fix all permissions problems. If 644 doesn't work, and you own it, something else is wrong.

What are the permissions on your directory?

What are the full contents of your script? Perhaps something else is saying 'permission denied'.

Folder permission: drwxr-xr-x

You might be right, this might be different issue-

The piece of code is something like this
Code:
		if [[ "${date1}" > "${date2}" ]]

		then
		echo "file movement";

		sftp sftpabc@abc.com  <<EOF
		cd folder
		put ${file1}
		EOF
		echo "${file1},$USER,$DATE" >> log1.txt
else
echo "do nothing"
fi

It may be sftp that's giving 'permission denied', when you try to upload a file, or even when you try to change directory. What are the permissions on the remote host?

This may be a long shot but the closing EOF must not be indented.
Another suggestion. Try placing set -x at the beginning of your script for debugging purposes. Next time you run the script, each step will be shown in the screen as the script executes, and that may give you a better idea as to what's wrong.
If you don't get your head around to it with these suggestions and the others that have been given in this thread, please copy here your full script and a concise explanation of what it's supposed to accomplish.
