Need your help.
I have a file which has information of start time and End time . I need to find how much time takes to complete the job . how can I do it in unix command .
Example of Log file :

Start Loading ---Thu Aug 2 17:14:09 EDT 2012
Load completed successfully---Fri Aug 3 09:00:44 EDT 2012

Ok, another fun hiccup in my UNIX learning curve. I am trying to count the number of occurrences of an IP address across multiple files named example.hits. Hi All
Can anyone help me with the following du querry. I am trying to achieve a total size for all the zipped files in a directory. Using du -k *.gz gets me a file by file list but no handy total at the bottom.

I'm using a .txt file filled with domain names for dig to use, the problem is that when i look at the results I get the query time for each individual query, I want to know how long it took in total for all queries to run, how can I achieve this? any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.... time - time a command
SYNOPSIS
command
utility [argument ...]
DESCRIPTION
When a specified command or utility completes execution, prints the elapsed time during the command or utility, the time spent in the sys-
tem, and the time spent executing the command or utility. Times are reported in seconds.
Execution time can depend on the performance of the memory in which the program is running.
The times are printed to standard error.
Note that the shell also has a keyword that times an entire pipeline if used anywhere in the pipeline. This action is different than the
command which times a particular command if used in a pipeline.
Options
recognizes the following options:
command The command to be executed and timed.
Writes the timing statistics to standard error.
utility The name of a utility to be invoked and timed. If the utility operand names any of the shell special built-in utilities,
the time results are undefined. See csh(1) and ksh(1) for information about special built-in utilities.
argument Any string that is an argument to the utility.
