du total

Hi All

Can anyone help me with the following du querry. I am trying to achieve a total size for all the zipped files in a directory. Using du -k *.gz gets me a file by file list but no handy total at the bottom.

du -k *.gz | awk '{total=total+$1} END {print total}'

Or if you have the GNU coreutils package (such as on a Linux system,) you can do:
du -sh

Err, just saw the thread, had a peek & a play and got the following result..

[/u03]# du -k * | awk '{total=total+$1} END {print total}'

How do I make the result more meaningful ??
OS= HP-UX 11.23 ia64

Hi, I have a strange issue where the total memory on the server is showing low. At the moment 8 GB of memory is installed and only 3 GB is showing on the shell prompt.
