That is a useless use of cat.

The [ character is special to sed, to match a real [ you have to escape it like \[

To just delete a simple character though, you don't need sed at all:

<filename cut -d ' ' -f 4 | cut ':' -f 1 | tr -d '[' | less

All of this could probably be done with awk in one step, too, if we had more details.

     url -- Realtek RTL8150L USB Ethernet driver

SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION

     The url driver provides support for USB Ethernet adapters based on the Realtek RTL8150L USB-ether bridge chip.

     The url driver supports the following adapters:

DIAGNOSTICS
