Question Transfer server to server
Hello!!
I'm new to the unix environment. I need to find out what parameters I need to use to save directory structure (with the permissions) and the files underneath this directory AND how to restore this directory structure on another unix machine.

Help me, please and thanks

I create a tar file with:

tar cf mytarfile dir1 dir2 dir3

Then I transfer mytarfile to another server and:

tar xf mytarfile

Permissions etc are preserved. If mytarfile is sizeable, and the transfer is outside your intranet, I would compress it first.

Thanks for your quickly response. I don't know what is the best way to compress this .tar file.

Can you help me again?

compress mytarfile

and it will become mytarfile.Z

then uncompress it with:

uncompress mytarfile
