.gz extensions

What do I use to open a file with a .gz extension? I'm guessing I need some kind of "unzipping" tool.

you need to do

gunzip <filename>

include the gz extension in the filename.

This may not be in your path - check by typing which gunzip - if it says it's not in your path - you'll need to find the file and run it from there......
