Lightbulb GUI on UNIX

Dear friends;
I have Hp9000 series of Unix servers with s800 11.0 range
Can i make it GUI?
I heard that if you have xinit installed on the servers you can make the servers Graphical User Interface.
Is it possible to make this possible?

Plz. help me out...

Thanx in advance...

I've never actually set up a HP-UX 11 box, but all of the ones here have CDE on them... so it _is_ possible...

Thanx Livin Free for the reply; so you mean to say with the help of CDE this is possible.
Is it the same CDE located in /etc/rc.config.d/cde or it is a different patch available separately?
Or there is any other PATCH available to make HP UNIX servers GUI?

Thanx in advance...

Try:
man xinit
man startx

If you have the apropriate permissions, you should be able to configure this If you do not have the permissions to do so, ask your admin to help you set it up.
Also, look for /usr/contrib/bin/X11/xinit. If that isn't there, search for it.

Good luck, and happy GUI-ing!

You must first determine if you are working on a console or a graphics monitor Smilie You can't run X on most consoles, they are just ASCII terminal I/O devices.

So, before you start talking GUI desktop, you have to talk X server enviroment and make sure you have X terminals and services running appropriately.

If you just have an ASCII console in front of you and no X servers on the net, you can't run xinit very effectively Smilie

Hi Livin Free!!
I looked for /usr/contrib/bin/X11/xinit, it is present there in my server & when i gave the command (file xinit; it is showing;
xinit: PA-RISC1.1 shared executable dynamically linked)
so what to do now? if this is present and i also have graphical monitor to access unix servers can i get the GUI?

THANX IN ADVANCE.....

Type startx, that should do it. It will take you a while to get used to CDE, but there are additional resources out there for that...
