"echo *.out" - can I separate the results by a new line?
Greetings,

Let's say I want to find files matching "*.out" in the current dir. I can do a echo *.out. However, the result is separated by a white space. Is there a way to have the results separated by a new line instead?

I know this can be done by using find -maxdepth 1 -name '*.out'. The completist in me wants to know if there is another way Smilie

Another approach:

Or just ls *.out? As soon as the output isn't the terminal, but a file or a pipe the files are separated by newlines.

Find lines with "A" then change "E" to "X" same line

I have a bunch of random character lines like ABCEDFG. I want to find all lines with "A" and then change any "E" to "X" in the same line. ALL lines with "A" will have an "X" somewhere in it.
