stty issues

Hi,
I am having stty issues.can someone please help me with following
I see this error when I try to open vi editor.

"teminal too wide"

I had set stty columns 163 in my .profile.
but this problem comes up every once in a while...

Can you tell us which O/S this is, and what terminal definition you are using ? Some Solaris have issues with wide terminal settings for example. Also some terminals do not support > 132 columns. Google does seem to return lots of entries for "terminal to wide" - I would check some of those out and see if they apply to you...

Post #1 looks like a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
You cannot edit such a file with "vi".

Methyl....it was a copy paste issue. I pasted some c**p which was in my clipboard at the time. Sorry for the inconvienence of scrolling all the way down to read the issue..!!
