CPU & Memory FTP problem

Hi everyone , have a nice day

i have 4 Sun Machines at my work , i have made few scripts which copies data from 3 of them to first one , then i have made another program in visual basic , which FTP to this first machine ( after every minute ) , get that data file and displays it on screen , i have tried to show a real time trend of those machines , things are working fine , only that sometimes ( after 10-15 minutes )
my VB program crashes with this error message

" Run time error '########'
Automation error
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients "

i have tried lookin error in VB but couldnt find , i think its something like server disconnects the ftp after some time but this doesnt happen all the time , its driving me nuts

I experienced a similar problem on a lengthy data transfer. Mine was through a firewall. Since there are two ports in use on a ftp transfer (data and control), one sits idle while the other's transfering data. The idle port (control) will get timed out and the data transfer won't know that it's completed successfully even if it did.

We had to compress files to get around it since the firewall guys wouldn't adjust the timeout.

Well , i am using four different FTP components to ftp four different text file
each file has just one line having almost 30-40 characters , so i dont think that file is too big , even then i can add a compression in my shell script ,what i was thinking that program crashes more in day ( when there are other ppl too who are logging into that remote machine ) as compared to night , so what i was thinking is that may be remote machine is refusing too many ftp attempts from same ip ( since ftps are taking place after every minute ) or there is some maximam limit set on rsh/telnet/ftp session on that machine Smilie
