Hi Guys,
Thank you for ur replies. I figured out what the problem was. Solaris was detecting "Xircom Pocket Ethernet parallel port card" when it was booting. But my laptop never had this NIC card in the 1st place. I then got an idea of finding out what NIC card was installed on my laptop.
While the system was booting, i changed the boot options in BIOS to boot from Network rather than the "disk". When the system was rebooted, it showed the NIC name which was "Realtek 81xx adapater" So I went to the
http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ site, downloaded the driver and followed the instructions and plumbed the interface. It worked and now I can used the internet and connect to the system remotely.
Obviously I was looking at the wrong NIC which could not be found on the system. I realized my mistake. Thank you guys for ur help too...
