Hi RTM, anybody,
That helps alot. I'm now a a giant leap ahead than before.
But still have not meet the solution..... I'm sure its near
- Found out that I was wrong about my NIC. Its not in HCL. But I manage to install my SMC1211TX which uses Realtek 8139 chipset/driver.
- The line for my NIC in ../devicedb/master file shows:
pci10ec,8139 pci10ec,8139 net pci
none "Realtek 8139 Fast Ethernet"
Notice the "none" above. Shouldn't it be "rtls.bef" if it is installed correctly?
- Manage to see the 'rtls0' line from ifconfig -a
- My hosts file is amended to:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.1 mysun loghost
- Created /etc/hostname.rtls0 containing 192.168.0.1
- Deleted broken link /etc/netmasks and creted new containing:
192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
- Created /etc/resolv.conf containing
starhub.net (my ISP)
<pri dns>
<sec dns>
- cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf
( I don't think the file contents is helpful
)
- Done ifconfig rtls0 plumb
- Done reboot
.... The system doesn't grab the IP from my ISP.
- The netmask has error after I run
ifconfig rtls0 inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
- dhcpmgr now shows my interface rtls0 unlike previously but it shows the network IP as 192.168.0.1 ( the one I set). Doesn't work. My IP should start with 202.x.x.x
I am using my pc at home. Internet is thru cable ethernet modem with dynamic IP. No router.
I can't seems to find any guide in configuring internet using dhcp as in my case. Please advice. (Don't nobody show me the sun docs link. Been there already
)
