Image MachDB is machine database to catalog of the changing state of your hosts. It consists of a database, an aggregator, an XML spec, and some example information gathering scripts. Along with a Web UI, these form the basis of a system that will allow you to catalog the current and historical state of the hosts in your infrastructure. It has been designed with scale in mind, and the goal is to support 10k hosts. It is being actively developed and is used in production at a few organizations. License: GNU General Public License v2 Changes:
Bugs were fixed. The scheme was changed. The XML spec was updated. The filesystem and disks have had the limit raised from 2TB to 16 zettabytes. The OS name is now limited to 100 characters. Base architecuture was added to the host node. A Unified Cache to CPU node was added. "Version" and "release" were split up into two different fields for packages. "Release" is optional input. Various UI bugs were fixed. Files were renamed. A contrib directory was added.Image

NAME

       mkhosts - generate hashed host table

SYNOPSIS

       /usr/sbin/mkhosts [ -v ] hostfile

DESCRIPTION

       Mkhosts	is used to generated the hashed host database used by one version of the library routines gethostbyaddr() and gethostbyname().	It
       is not used if host name translation is performed by named(8).  If the -v option is supplied, each host will be listed as it is added.  The
       file  hostfile  is  usually /etc/hosts, and in any case must be in the format of /etc/hosts (see hosts(5)).  Mkhosts will generate database
       files named hostfile.pag and hostfile.dir.  The new database is build in a set of temporary files and only replaces the	real  database	if
       the new one is built without errors.  Mkhosts will exit with a non-zero exit code if any errors are detected.

       hostfile.new.pag    - temporary database filenames
       hostfile.new.dir
