Hi All,

I got some requirement of using Awk in perl subroutine
One of the variable in my perl script holds below type of data.

I want to split this value as quotes seperated and get the second last field i.e., 3206000 from above.

I used below code in my perl sub-routine, but it is not working as expected.

 my $num = system(" awk -F'\"' '{print $4}' $string "); #$string holds the above quoted values.

Any idea whether anything wrong with this way of invoking awk in perl?

I guess but may be terribly wrong that system doesn't return the command's stdout but an exit code. On top, the awk you supplied is wrong in (at least) two ways: it needs its data supplied in files, e.g. stdin, not a variable, and the field count doesn't fit. 3206000 is field 6.
Why is it you can't extract that value in perl ?

I have tried supplying the input as stdin. But it didn't work for some reason.

Do you have any examples to use perl logic itself to accomplish the same please?
