While loop help

Hi

I am trying to create a script that would check % column of a particular file system and if that number is greater than 91, it should send an email to the admin. What I wrote so far is this:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#check if /backups is greater than 91%

VALUE=df -h /backups | awk '{ print $5 }'

while [ $VALUE gt 91 ]; do
echo "check /backup F.S." | mailx -s "/backups on moneta" admin@company.com
done

But the problem I am facing is the variable
Code:
VALUE

is not set properly.
Please can you help

I am getting the following error:
Code:

If you had bothered to tell us you were using a Solaris system, vbe and Franklin52 would have known that your shell wouldn't recognize $(command) substitution.

Try:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#check if /backups is greater than 91%

VALUE=`df /backups | awk '{ print $5 }'`

if [ "$VALUE" -gt 91 ]
then
   echo "check /backup F.S." | mailx -s "/backups on moneta" admin@company.com
fi[

Note that I left off the -h because there really isn't any need to make df spend extra cycles to produce human readable output that is only going to be read and thrown away by awk.

on advice from Franklin52, my script:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#check if /backups is greater than 91%

VALUE=$(df -h /backups | awk '{ print int($5) }')

if [ "$VALUE" -gt 91 ]; then
echo "check /backup F.S." | mailx -s "/backups on moneta" fretagi@mcel.co.mz
fi

and the output was:

Code:
 ./check_backups.sh
./check_backups.sh: syntax error at line 4: `VALUE=$' unexpected

my apologies it is solaris 10, I will change now

---------- Post updated at 11:52 AM ---------- Previous update was at 11:47 AM ----------

It is now working fine. I guess I now need to insert on
Code:
crontab

to run every hour.

for some reason, something is not quite right because:
Code:
df -h /backups/
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/md/dsk/d600       1.5T   1.1T   458G    71%    /backups
You have new mail in /var/mail//root

BUT the script is sending me an email saying that it has passed the 91% mark

I know why, its because I left out
Code:
-h

Replace this line:

Code:
VALUE=`df -h /backups | awk '{ print int($5) }'`

with:
Code:
VALUE=`df -h /backups | awk 'NR-1{ print int($5) }'`
