ya, i tried already that code. first, i dont really understand what 5 is. And to open or get the file, i just use $1.

would you mind reading my post where there's a 'grep' on it please
That's what i did. But, i still cannot continue my job because i dont know how to get those numbers line by line.

UNIX has several pre-opened files for you. 0 is the keyboard, 1 is the terminal, 2 is also the terminal. 5 is almost certainly not opened yet, so it's a number free to use. That's not how you open the file, no.

I mean, you could do

read x <$1
read y <$1
read z <$1

but that would just read the first line of the file three times. Not that useful. You want the file to stay open, which <filename does not do. That's what I mean by 'open', something that lets you read line by line.

So, to open the file $1 and read line by line:
exec 5<$1 That opens it into FD 5, and keeps it open until you close it on purpose.
Okay. My answer remains, because I also read it in the first place.. Which is why I suggested the solution I did...
