awk script
Hi,
I have a file
Code:
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1880,500,1900>
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1894,500,1900>
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1880,500,1900,600,2100>

I need to search for if $4>=$6 then replace it by the value of
$4+10.
Number of field for a row can vary.

awk -F"," '$4>$6 && /PAT/ { $4=$4+10} 1'  OFS="," input_file

Thanks a lot but I have a little change in input file now
Code:
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1880,500,1900>
1,2,3,4,5,6,7>
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1894,500,1900>
1,2,3,4,5,6,7>
PAT,1,200,1890,400,1880,500,1900,600,2100>
1,2,3,4,5,6,7>

so the changes need only for line with PAT and the others will remain unchange.

So I can say now that I have to grep the lines with PAT and then I need to search for if $4>=$6 then replace it by the value of $4+10.

Just realised that output is bit wrong and is without separated by commas.Any fix for it.

I have made a little modification with like

awk -F "," '$4>$6 && /PAT/ { $6=int($4+$6)/2} 1' OFS="," input file

.
so in some case I am getting output with .5,I would be happy to get it in next higher integer.
Any trick for it.

now is it possible that

i want to replace the value of $4 as 1000 for if the above condition is suited?.
