Yes, but I also want the whole sentence to print (including the variable's number) as this will be sent to an error file if there is more than 1 file in that directory ie:

"There are 1 in the <PATH> directory. Transfer has been stopped."

seems, the variable has the newline character and you are using any tail command to get the last line ?

please post the entire script.

if you are re-directing to the file, just try with >> ( not with single > )

Hi there.

The file redirection will only occur on error.

Here is a copy of the script I have written:
