Compare column value against fixed value
Hi all,

i have a value something like 1007. I have a excel, where its first column has many values like
1007
1007
1009
1007
1010 etc

I need to check if value 1 (ie) 1007 = 1007 if so print yes
or i should print no.

I should check this through out the column. please help on this.

Not sure about excel, but you will need a text file on unix.

Code:
awk '{if ($1 == 1007){ print "yes" } else {print "no"}}' file

# 3

Are you reading an excel sheet in bash or Perl?
If you are having the value in bash then use if condition like,

Code:
if [ 1007 -eq $val ]

Need awk script to compare 2 fields in fixed length file.

Need a script that manipulates a fixed length file that will compare 2 fields in that file and if they are equal write that line to a new file. i.e. If fields 87-93 = fields 119-125, then write the entire line to a new file.
