Script for ls
Hi, I want to make a script named myls
which displays the inode_number owner size in that order
instead of ls -l
any ideas would be helpful

Insert a new field after the login name in /etc/passwd having the sum of uid and gid

Er. Will the passwd file even work if you add an extra field? And that new number's not guaranteed to be unique either.

Code:
IFS=":"
while read UNAME HASH PUID PGID INFO REST
do
        echo "${UNAME}:${HASH}:${PUID}:${PGID}:${INFO}:${REST}:$((PUID+PGID))"
done < /etc/passwd > new-password-file

This will generate 'new-password-file' which you can inspect to see if it's really what you want before you do anything with it.
