gnome-font-properties - select fonts for the desktop
SYNOPSIS
gnome-font-properties [gnome-std-options]
DESCRIPTION
The Font preferences tool allows you to select the fonts to use in your applications and desktop background.
OPTIONS
The following options are supported:
gnome-std-optionStandard options available for use with most GNOME applications. See gnome-std-options(5).
EXAMPLES
Example 1: Launching the Font preferences tool
example% gnome-font-properties
EXIT STATUS
The following exit values are returned:
0 Application exited successfully
>0 Application exited with failure

I don't know how but my gnome desktop icons or all gone and i dont know how to make them apear on desktop can some one tell me what can i do?

I've installed russian font (Cyrillic) in my system. But I could not type in those characters under unix. Especially for mail.
Do I have to do any settings?

I finally got 'xdm' running and was able to log in as a regular user. I did a pkg_install and installed the gnome-desktop package, but I haven't been able to find a way to get it to work for my regular user. I created a ~/.xsession file with the following lines in it:

on gnome i open a terminal and run wget http://soommmething & in the background. because wget shows me downloading progress percentage and download speed continuously, I exit the gnome-terminal

We use the debian 4.0 Linux with the wine 1.0. When we run our application on this platform, there is a problem:
The Barcode can't be displayed correctly, but occurs some Garbled. The font we use is “Carolinabar-B39-25F2”. But when we install the wine-0.9.25 instead of wine-1.0, the barcode can... (1 Reply)
I've written some tools that don't like the default font setting that come up with the Common Desktop Environment. (The text on the buttons looks like the dingbat character set.) The work around is to go into the style manager and set the font to anything other than 'medium' which is the default.... (2 Replies)
I have just tried out Bluefish as an alternative to my regular text editor. If I save the modified preferences and reboot, the preferences have to be reentered again. Does anyone know which file the preferences are saved in?
The command
find / -mmin -5 | grep bluefish
yields zero hits.

Ubuntu 12.04 using gnome-shell
I just removed the entire unity unity-2d gnome desktop and installed the barebones essentials "gnome-shell" and all is working fine. The problem that I have noticed seems to be with permissions. These are the things that I cannot do:

I'm trying add wallpapers in /usr/share/backgrounds/gnome. And I already put the image file jpg in local specified before and added configuration in /usr/share/gnome-background-properties/gnome-backgrounds.xml.
