linksys

hi,

i have a linksys wireless card wc11 v3 and everytime i plug it into my toshiba, knoppix freezes. Im reading in some places to run iwconfig, but how can i if i cant plug it in to detect it. Also, during the bootup, if it is plugged in, i get a beep near the end of the boot process and the screen output is too far down to see any message. i hit enter and get nothing, like it freezes there also. i have an older laptop, toshiba satellite 2540cds.

PCMCIA card on Linux are supported by card services (pcmcia-cs). You can find more information here:

http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/

This Linksys page on Linux support may be helpful:

http://www.linksys.com/support/support.asp?spid=26

You must configure your card services to recognize and initialize (configure Linux for) the PCMCIA card

ok well,

my card is pcmcia and under the orinoco-cs driver infromation from what ive read. also under the prism 2/2.5/3 chipset. apparently my knoppix installation already has the orinoco driver. i looked in hte config file under \etc\pcmcia directory and changed the version number from 01.2 to version 3 like mine is. when i boot, it sais on the bootup screen loading cardmgr executing 'modprobe orinoco-cs and when it hits htat i get a very loud beep then nothing. frozen. i dont get it. maybe an irq problem? i dont know lol im so mad and frustrated but thats how we learn. i looked at all that stuff and they say i need some tools and a kernal thing and i dont have them nor is there a link to get them. any help or anything is appreciated.

Configuring card services can be tricky. Be patient and take your time. Search Google for others who have had similar problems and read their solutions.
