If you use useradd with the -m option (and optionally -d) - see the manual page, it'll create the home directory, and set the appropriate permissions.
Whilst you're still finding your feet with Linux, you could use a graphical configuration tool such as YaST (for SUSE) for major system changes until you're comfortable with the command line.

quotes). We have also added echo statements to make it visible on the

I'm using SAM to add users on an HP and they're adding fine. But in /etc/group it only lists the group names. It's not adding the users in there. I have joined the Suse Linux Server in my domain. I am not able update the DNS but I am able to join the domain. net ads testjoin gives me Join ok.
even net ads dns register -P results to DNS update failed.
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g also not working.

partimaged-passwd [-Dhl] username password partimaged-passwd [-Dhl] username DESCRIPTION
partimaged can either authenticate against local user accounts (This needs access to /etc/shadow. As this is a potential security risk this method is not recommended) or its own password database in /etc/partimaged/passwd.db. To simplify the management of the partimaged user database this tool was written. It allows to easily add and remove users or list the users in the database. All users in this database are allowed to access the partimaged server. OPTIONS
-D username Delete the specified user from the password file. -l List users in password file and exit. -h Output help information and exit. FILES
