sed question
all,

I am trying to write a script that will dynamically change passwords within a group of files. Each file will have a record such as PASSWORD="xxxxxxxxx". I plan on creating a file with a list of passwords, (say 500,000) and then writing a 'for' loop that will cycle thru each, and replace PASSWORD="xxxxx" with a password that i just peeled off of the top of my list and loaded into a varaible. My problem is the sed statment, I'm not sure how to replace just whats between to doublequotes with this varaible that contains the new password. Any thoughts?

Hi, When deleting lines using sed, as i understand the lines are redirected to the standard output. What i'm unclear about is how to actually modify the file? NAME

       script - make record of a terminal session

SYNOPSIS

       script [-a] [filename]

DESCRIPTION

       The  script  utility  makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
       record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.

       The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
       when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.

OPTIONS

       The following option is supported:

       -a    Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.

NOTES

       script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
