Rebuilding computer tomorrow at work
I'm rebuilding my primary computer at work tomorrow. Currently, it has Windows 7. I would like to replace the main system with either Linux or Unix, although I would like to be able to run a fully operational Windows as a VM within that. Any recommendations on which Linux or Unix to go with?
I'm a big fan of Slackware and OpenBSD, although also like Solaris. Then again, the company uses Ubuntu for some of the servers, so there's the option of going with that or Debian. I'm in a systems administrator role, dealing mostly with networking topics, although am hoping to lean more toward the security side, or at least network-security.
Ultimately, I need to continue to be able to do things across the network, like with accessing and working with servers, which include Windows Servers 2003, 2008, 2012, and Ubuntu Servers.
I'm going to install Windows 7, 8, or 10 as a VM, I'd like to avoid multi-boot, but need to access the full Windows OS in case there's a proprietary need or if someone else needs to use the machine, they'll have something they're familiar with. In addition to thoughts on *nix choices, any suggestions for VM software?

Now it could be as simple as at work I use tsch, and at home it is bash.

I'm trying to rebuild a very old HMC 7315-C02 the hard disk has gone so needs replacing. I've managed to find an old IDE hard disk lying around but its obvious that it's had windows running on it as the HMC install disks won't recognise the format. I'm trying to install HMC V6 R1.2... (3 Replies)

I guess Mac has default bash. Then I copy my code to another comp and run it...And it gives me an error like "bad substitution"....

ad - Active Directory as a naming repository DESCRIPTION
Solaris clients can obtain naming information from Active Directory (AD) servers. The Solaris system must first join an AD domain and then add the ad keyword to the appropriate entries in the nsswitch.conf(4) file. The Solaris system joins the AD domain by using the kclient(1M) utility. The AD name service only supports the naming databases for passwd and group. Windows users are not able to log in. The user_attr(4) database has no entries for Windows users, and the passwd(1) command does not sup- port the synchronization of user passwords with AD. The Solaris AD client uses auto-discovery techniques to find AD directory servers, such as domain controllers and global catalog servers. The client also uses the LDAP v3 protocol to access naming information from AD servers. The AD server schema requires no modification because the AD client works with native AD schema. The Solaris AD client uses the idmap(1M) service to map between Windows security identi- fiers (SIDs) and Solaris user identifiers (UIDs) and group identifiers (GIDs). User names and group names are taken from the sAMAccountName attribute of the AD user and group objects and then tagged with the domain where the objects reside. The domain name is separated from the user name or group name by the @ character. The client uses the SASL/GSSAPI/KRB5 security model. The kclient utility is used to join the client to AD. During the join operation, kclient configures Kerberos v5 on the client. See kclient(1M). FILES
