Hi! Sorry to bring up this old post, But I have the same Pioneer amplifier as thread starter, only mine is two years newer (VSX-923 instead of VSX-921). My goal is to adjust volume and the On/off switch with hotkeys from my mac. I've succeeded getting hot keys for volume up and down, but I have some trouble with the power. I've been using code from this thread, but still haven't been able to work it out.
The problem is that this line:
doesn't return the current power state (PWR0 / PWR1), like it did with the thread starter. It doesn't return anything at all! I can send commands with this type of command, but I cant receive any information. I want to key on my mac to either turn the receiver on or off, based on the power state, PWR0 / PWR1. I can receive this info if I use telnet instead of netcat, but I haven't been able to store that text string.

Hi Guys,
How do I write the script for the following
telnet 192.168.1.100 9002
if the result is less than 1 second. The script should say as port open
if the result takes more than 3 seconds. The script should display as port closed.
Thanks,

THREAD-KEYRING(7) Linux Programmer's Manual THREAD-KEYRING(7)NAME
thread-keyring - per-thread keyring
DESCRIPTION
The thread keyring is a keyring used to anchor keys on behalf of a process. It is created only when a thread requests it. The thread
keyring has the name (description) _tid.
A special serial number value, KEY_SPEC_THREAD_KEYRING, is defined that can be used in lieu of the actual serial number of the calling
thread's thread keyring.
From the keyctl(1) utility, '@t' can be used instead of a numeric key ID in much the same way, but as keyctl(1) is a program run after
forking, this is of no utility.
Thread keyrings are not inherited across clone(2) and fork(2) and are cleared by execve(2). A thread keyring is destroyed when the thread
that refers to it terminates.
Initially, a thread does not have a thread keyring. If a thread doesn't have a thread keyring when it is accessed, then it will be created
if it is to be modified; otherwise the operation fails with the error ENOKEY.
