Hello All,
I was approached by DBAs, and they want me to create a large_page on AIX and also change oracle file systems to CIO.
They are complaining the system is taking longer time for processing and we are unnecessary wasting memory and CPU for file system cache.
To do that I have to change lgpg_regions and lgpg_size under VMO (though they are not restricted parameters, is it recommended to change them?)
I never changed that parameter for oracle and not sure how the impact will be.
I know wrong values or setting will degrade the performance.
I looked online and there is a pdf called 'AIX_tuning_for_Oracle_DB.pdf" it says create large pages for oracle.
Has anyone really changed those parameters and if they did, under what circumstances and did it really improved the performance of the database.
I increased the size of paging space as alternative (for now) as the system was very high on file cache.
AIX 7.1 TL01 SP06
Oracle 11gr2
Power7+ (770)
I was told disks are raid 10.
Database system
System has 4 entitled and virtual CPUs
Real mem: 85 gigs and Swap is 42 gigs (I increased it for time being)
See the difference after I increased the swap space. Now the consumption of swap is 1%.
Hi @all
Who's able to help me?
I've a running Oracle DB on AIX 4.3.3.
You've also an Oracle Client running for this.
So however, how it's possible, that I can see the CURRENT VERSION of my Oracle CLIENT. I've tried several things,
but it doesn't work. Thanks a lot!

Hi All,
I need to update some AIX servers from 5.2 to 5.3 OR 6.1 .
The management is pressing for 6.1, but on our systems runs Oracle 9.2.0 .
I couldn't find any clear warning about the possibility of compatibility issues between AIX 6.1 and Oracle 9.2.0 but, on the other hand, I couldn't find... (0 Replies)

Hi,
we need to upgrade from aix 5.3 oracle 9 to aix 6.1 oracle 11.

On aix 5.3 we change lru_file_repage to 0.

nswapfs
nswapfs(5) File Formats Manual nswapfs(5)NAME
nswapfs - maximum number of file systems that can be enabled for swap
VALUES
Default
Allowed values
DESCRIPTION
File system swap devices are managed in a table for easier indexing in the kernel. sets the kernel variable responsible for the upper
limit on this table, and thus the upper limit to file systems which can be used for swap.
Who is Expected to Change This Tunable?
Anyone.
Restrictions on Changing
Changes to this tunable take effect at the next reboot.
When Should the Value of This Tunable Be Raised?
If another file system swap is added to the system which would increase the number above then returns to the caller (see the swapon(2) man-
page).
What Are the Side Effects of Raising the Value?
More file systems for swap can be added to the system, and the kernel will need a little more memory for the table. A small performance
side effect of the kernel having to scan more file systems to check for a duplicate during swapon is also true, but realistically negligi-
ble.
When Should the Value of This Tunable Be Lowered?
Only if you are sure the system will never go over a certain number of swap file systems, and you wish to lower this tunable to save a
small amount of kernel memory and kernel performance during swapon operations.
What Are the Side Effects of Lowering the Value?
No side effects other than the primary and presumably desired new limitation on the number of swap file systems.
What Other Tunable Values Should Be Changed at the Same Time?
None.
WARNINGS
All HP-UX kernel tunable parameters are release specific. This parameter may be removed or have its meaning changed in future releases of
HP-UX.
Installation of optional kernel software, from HP or other vendors, may cause changes to tunable parameter values. After installation,
some tunable parameters may no longer be at the default or recommended values. For information about the effects of installation on tun-
able values, consult the documentation for the kernel software being installed. For information about optional kernel software that was
