#!/bin/bash
TEXT=
echo "Enter some text";
read TEXT;
if [ "$TEXT" == "" ];then #User inputs nothing
echo -e "You didn't enter any text, Try again";
read TEXT;
else
echo "You entered some text, It worked!!!";
fi
The above works but if you enter no text once but if you enter no text twice it doesn't! Any help please its been annoying me for ages!
Amendment: I feel I should explain more. I want this script to continue checking if the user has entered text, if the user hasn't theres an error, if they have they continue down the script.
I think i need a loop but I don't know if it should be a while loop or a for loop or what ever else there is….
Cheers

Hi, I was debating if I should put this in the dummies or scripts section, I apologize in advance if I chose poorly.
Fairly new to Unix and BASH scripting but I thought I made it fairly well given my limited understanding. However, the output indicates that it's looping and I'm ending up with a... (5 Replies)
