Hi Folks,
Below is a script I knocked up to search man pages on both Solaris and Linux systems. It's not pretty but functions ;-)
(Tested on Solaris 10 and RHES)

Usage:
MANPATH environment variable is required as it will iterate through each path.

Code:
`which bash` mansearch.sh <searchword>

Code:
argv=($1)
if [ "${argv}" == "" ]
then
        echo "Usage: mansearch.sh <keyword>"
        exit
fi
OS=(`uname -s`)
if [ "${MANPATH}" == "" ]
then
        echo "MANPATH is not set"
fi
for i in ${MANPATH//:/ }
do
        echo "Searching ${i}"
        if [ "${OS}" == "SunOS" ]
        then
                find ${i} -follow -exec grep -n " ${argv} " /dev/null {} \;
        elif [ "${OS}" == "Linux" ]
        then
                find ${i} -exec zgrep -R --include=*.gz -H " ${argv} " . {} \;
        else
                echo "Unknown system ${OS}"
        fi
done

Regards,
SRG
