Script query

Hi Admins,

Code:
count=`ps -ef | grep LIST_8i | grep -v grep|wc -l`
pid=`ps -ef|grep LIST_8i|grep -v grep|awk '{print $2}'`
if [ $count = 1 ]
then
lsnrctl stop LIST_8i >> ${log}
sleep 5
lsnrctl start LIST_8i >> ${log}
else
echo " "
lsnrctl start LIST_8i >> ${log}
fi 2>&1

The script restarts listener if count is equal to 1.
This script fails when 'lsnrctl stop LIST_8i ' code aborts due to some tns adapter error.
In this scenario i had to use kill -9 <pid>.

Now i want modify script like when 'lsnrctl stop LIST_8i ' fails and kill -9 <pid> works.
Please guide me how i can achieve this.
Regards
newaix

zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename... DESCRIPTION
Zgrep invokes grep on compressed or gzipped files. These grep options will cause zgrep to terminate with an error code: (-[drRzZ]|--di*|--exc*|--inc*|--rec*|--nu*). All other options specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified, then the standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep. Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep. If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep program to be invoked. EXIT CODE
