Help with AWK Script
Hello everybody,
Can someone please help me resolve this problem? I’m in my trial period and my employer has given me a task to test me and I still haven’t found the solution for my problem.
I have a csv file named masterFile1 that contains the following columns. Each line contains a computer’s properties (the file may contain more than 3 computers(Lines)). For example:
a,b,c,d,e,cpu_numb,cpu_core,cpu_model
a1,b1,c1,d1,e1,1,4,model1
a2,b2,c2,d2,e2,2,4,model1
a3,b3,c3,d3,e3,4,16,model45
...
...
- Line 1 (computer 1) : has data a1 for the columns a, data b1 for the columns b, data c1 for columns c, d1 for columns d, e1 for columns e, 1 cpu (cpu_numb), 4 core cpu (cpu_core), and model1 for the columns cpu_model
- Line 2 (computer 2) : has data a2 for the columns a, data b2 for the columns b, data c2 for columns c, d2 for columns d, e2 for columns e, 2 cpu (cpu_numb), 4 core cpu (cpu_core)(2 core cpu for each cpu), and model1 for the columns cpu_model
- Line 3 (computer 3) : has data a3 for the columns a, data b3 for the columns b, data c3 for columns c, d3 for columns d, e3 for columns e, 4 cpu (cpu_numb), 16 core cpu (cpu_core)(4 core cpu for each cpu), and model45 for the columns cpu_model
The file may contain more than 3 lines (these lines are just examples).
I want a script that allows me to have an output file named masterFile2 for example that contains the following columns :
a,cpu_id,cpu_core,cpu_model
a1,1,4,model1
a2,1,2,model17
a2,2,2,model17
a3,1,4,model45
a3,2,4,model45
a3,3,4,model45
a3,4,4,model45
I want to delete the columns b,c,d,e,cpu_numb (the number of cpu in the computer) and add a new columns cpu_id that contains an ID for the cpu. For example, if we had a computer with the following datas
a,b,c,d,e,cpu_numb,cpu_core,cpu model
a2,b2,c2,d2,e2,2,4,model1
We have here 2 cpu and 4 core cpu (2 core cpu for each cpu)
The output file will contain the following columns with two lines this time because we have 2 cpu
a,cpu_id,cpu_core,cpu_model
a2,1,2,model1
a2,2,2,model1
Each Line will have a cpu_id (example: 2 linesà2 cpu_id (2 cpu); 4 lines à4cpu_id (4 cpu).
The cpu_core will contain 2 not 4 because now we have datas for each cpu.
Another example:
Input File:
a,b,c,d,e,cpu_numb,cpu_core,cpu model
a3,b3,c3,d3,e3,4,16,model45
We have 4 cpu with 16 cpu_core (4 cpu_core for each cpu) so we’ll have 4 cpu_id (4 lines)
Output File:
a,cpu_id,cpu_core,cpu_model
a3,1,4,model45
a3,2,4,model45
a3,3,4,model45
a3,4,4,model45
The input File contains an unknown number of lines
a,b,c,d,e,cpu_numb,cpu_core,cpu model
a1,b1,c1,d1,e1,1,4,model1
a2,b2,c2,d2,e2,2,4,model17
a3,b3,c3,d3,e3,4,16,model45
...
...
...
And the output File will contain
a,cpu_id,cpu_core,cpu_model
a1,1,4,model1
a2,1,2,model17
a2,2,2,model17
a3,1,4,model45
a3,2,4,model45
a3,3,4,model45
a3,4,4,model45
...
...
...
Thank you very much in advance. You will save my life.

Please use
and
tags when posting code, data or logs etc. to preserve formatting and enhance readability, thanks. Also please refrain from overly use of formatting and colors since editing such posts is awful work and als there are people that color-blind, thanks.
