start top command in "solaris mode"

Ever noticed that using the top command on a multiple cpu box can often give totally misleading answers, like 230%, when you think that 100% should be the max?

Well, that's because top has a bizarre mode called "Irix mode" wherein if you have 4 cpus, the %CPU column of top can go up to 400%. I have no idea why you would ever want such a mode.

Fortunately, top also has the intuitively correct mode, called "solaris mode", in which the %CPU column can only go to 100%. Basically, it is the same number as in "Irix mode" but divided by the number of cpus.

Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to start top off in "solaris mode". What I have to do now is execute top, and then execute the interactive command 'I' to toggle "Irix mode" off and turn "solaris mode" on.

If you could let me know how to execute a single command line for top which immediately uses the proper "solaris mode", I would be very grateful.

DESCRIPTION

       Enables	the special alpha-channel editing mode, which is used for drawing alpha channels over the top of an existing 32-bit RGB sprite, to
       turn it into an RGBA format image. After calling this function, you can set the drawing mode to DRAW_MODE_TRANS and then write  draw  color
       values  (0-255)	onto  a  32-bit image. This will leave the color values unchanged, but alter the alpha to whatever values you are writing.
