How to send AT commands after getting into Kermit window?

We're using Kermit 8.0.209 in Linux environment. We're trying to invoke kermit from an application, send some AT commands and receive the responses from the End terminals like mobiles/modems. We access these deivces through serial ports.
For eg., to send a file we use command-line options like
/usr/bin/kermit -l ttyS0 -s filename
1) Is it possible to send AT commands in similar way? or
2) Is there any wat to send AT commands from the application to the device after giving /usr/bin/kermit -cl ttyS0 ? or
3) Should we use a completely different approach, (e.g.,shell scripts) ?

These commands read plotting instructions (see plot(5)) from the standard input or the specified files, and in general produce plotting instructions suitable for a particular terminal on the standard output. The -r flag may be used to specify the device's output resolution (currently only the Imagen laser printer understands this option). If no terminal type is specified, the environment parameter $TERM (see environ(7)) is used. Known terminals are: 4013 Tektronix 4013 storage scope. 4014 or tek Tektronix 4014 or 4015 storage scope with Enhanced Graphics Module.
