This is my script. I am pulling the status of some hard where, but the status is in numerical form. The number 4 means Major and the 5 means Critical. I have a file with the following content.

6709.296322 30000 2/7/2010 0.00I am using the following awk command to calculate a percentage from field 1 and 2 from the file.
awk '{ print $1/$2*100 }' /tmp/internetusage.txt

Add 35 to the 3rd col (12000) in input if it is "+" and it will be 12035 in output.
Some thing like
awk '{if ($3==+) print $2,$3,$3+35,$1 else print $2,$3-35,$3,$1}'
+ abc1 12000

I would like to be able to parse out a substring matching a basic pattern, which is a character followed by 3 or 4 digits (for example S1234 out of a larger string). my data is like the subsequent snipped. Fieldseperator is TAB.
I can work the data well with awk, but the missing zero-numbers at the days column, for the days smaller 10 and the full hour-minutes i cant handle in the output.

numsum - numsum program file SYNOPSIS
numsum [-iIcdhrsvxy] <FILE> | numsum [-iIcdhrsvxy] (Input on STDIN from pipeline.) numsum [-iIcdhrsvxy] (Input on STDIN. Use Ctrl-D to stop.) DESCRIPTION
numsum will take all the numbers on stdin and return the sum of those numbers. Currently it only processes the first number on each line. Besides positive numbers, it also handles negative numbers and numbers with decimals. OPTIONS
-i Only return the integer portion of the final sum. -I Only return the decimal portion of the final sum. -c Print out the sum of each column. -r Print out the sum of each row. -x <n> Specify a comma seperated list of columns to print. -y <n> Specify a comma seperated list of rows to print. -s <string> Specify a string to use as a seperator for columns. This defaults to be consecutive whitespace (s+). -h Help: You're looking at it. -V Increase verbosity. -d Debug mode. For developers -q Quiet mode, don't print any warnings. EXAMPLES
Simply add up the numbers in a file. $ numsum numbers.txt 4315 Enter your own numbers on STDIN.
