I do believe that it wouldn't hurt to also make an entry in the /etc/hosts file as well.
Also, in HPUX, there is a file called /etc/rc.config.d/netconf which also has some configuration for you do there as well. For subnetmask config and IP address and Hostname. Of course you have Solaris, so the file name might be different. But, you should still have a file similar to this.
You may also want to check your netstat output for your lan configuration. Try "netstat -in". I believe that is the same on your OS as well.

hi to all.
I'm trying to use the sendmail command to generate some reports and I cant use it. The mails i try to send simply won't go out, instead I receive a response from the system sayng that the host is unknown.
I think the problem is in the DNS configuration (or the IMAP/SMTP servers).

NAME
slattach - attach serial lines as network interfaces
SYOPNSIS
slattach ttyname [ baudrate ]
DESCRIPTION
Slattach is used to assign a tty line to a network interface, and to define the network source and destination addresses. The ttyname
parameter is a string of the form ``ttyXX'', or ``/dev/ttyXX''. The optional baudrate parameter is used to set the speed of the connec-
tion. If not specified, the default of 9600 is used.
Only the super-user may attach a network interface.
To detach the interface, use `ifconfig interface-name down' after killing off the slattach process. interface-name is the name that is
shown by netstat(1)
EXAMPLES
slattach ttyh8
slattach /dev/tty01 4800
DIAGNOSTICS
Messages indicating the specified interface does not exit, the requested address is unknown, the user is not privileged and tried to alter
an interface's configuration.
