/etc/issue question

when I would like to set message before remote login

how could I do it。
I set the /etc/issue file, but I set it,it doesn't change the display message from terminal.

If the /etc/issue file can only use in host login
it doest not support remote login
thanks

Moved to dummies: Nothing specific to HPUX in this thread but newbie question

Assuming this is HPUX . This is not really a newbie question and requires some decent knowledge of unix comms.

man telnetd
The -b switch is the name of the banner file. It can be set to /etc/issue .

man rlogind
The -B switch is the name of the banner file. It can be set to /etc/issue .

Tip: Always exercise caution when changing /etc/inetd.conf . Resetting inetd needs an idle system. Ensure you have physical access to the console.

Dear Methyl, I totally agree with you...
Only if you look at all the posts of this user, you would understand my position:
You cannot play with security and network stuff if you do not fully understand what its about and have read at least the man pages, wanting to modify a systems behaviour when you dont even know unix is more than risky...
And /etc/isssue telnetd or rlogind are not HP specific...

ISSUE and ISSUE.NET files

In LINUX(CentOS, RedHat) is there a way to have the banner statement appear before the logon instead of after the logon? In UNIX and Windows the banner appears before a person actually logs on, what I'm seeing in LINUX is that it appears after the login(ftp, telnet, SSH). Thanks (0 Replies)
