recover smtp mail text files

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone knows how to recover smtp mail text files back into a mail client. I only have the smtp mail text files (eg named 999. etc) and I need to get them visable for the user in his mail client. I can see his other smtp files in his user area on the server but just coping the saved files into a directory does not allow him to see the copied mail.

mail server is running fedora
user is using outlook client

Thanks

Mike

How is the Outlook client connecting to the server? IMAP? Which IMAP server are you running? Which MTA? (Postfix, Sendmail, Exim, qmail?)

The server is running cyrus imap and the MTA is postfix

The users mailspool on the server will have 3 directories called cur,tmp and new. Drop the files that you want the user to see into the new directory (ensuring there are no name clashes).

Or to do it a more smtp way use formmail

I am unable to locate 3 directories called cur,tmp and new for the user :-( and I need to look up about formmail as I'm unware of that option.

What problem are you trying to solve anyway? Do you mean to copy from one IMAP folder to another?

I have copies of the mail text files (eg named 999. 998. 997.etc) only and I am trying to re instate these as emails to allow the user to view them through his mail client outlook. :-)
