monitoring a directory for changes

hi
i need to monitor a directory for changes .. when ever a file is modified or created newly then the name of the file along with the user id and the ip address of the person who has created the file or modified it should be logged into a user specific file...

If this is a linux box with a modern kernel try the inotify command.

What about if the file is beeing created by a daemon, an application... quid of user ID and IP?

i am working on sun solaris unix .... i am nt a super user for my server ....
i plan to run a script in the .profile file .. that will keep monitoring the directory and fetch the name of the file that has been modified or changed .... and there is no file creation through deamon or any other application ... files will be created only by the process running in the server or manually .....
