And any startup/shutdown scrpits that call it...
If you're using Redhat, you should use the RPM facility if possible - very easy to work with.

oh right so you just remove the directory?

Also, the reason i dont use rpm's is because i cant seem to find recent enough versions. The latest version of apache on rpm that i've found is 1.3.23 which has security holes (i think)

anyway, thanx allot for your help.

oh and also, this isn't relevant to the topic but anyone who is considering to upgrade to redhat 8, i would wait a while. redhat servers are seriously bogged down.

I downloaded a tiny 113 MB is 8 hours

i usually get download speeds of around 200k so that was pretty poor.

i gave up in the end, but i will download it in a few weeks i think, as it looks interesting

anyway, thanx again for the help.

I use RedHat too.

Ok, since you cannot rpm --erase apache.rpm
you have to use a basic shell operation.
basically one way to get rid of most of it is with these
commands (as root because you need permission to delete the files)

user@host(/)# for file in `slocate apache`; do rm -rf $file ; done
user@host(/)# for file in `slocate httpd`; do rm -rf $file ; done
user@host(/)# rm -rf /var/log/httpd

that should clean it out decently.

at least 99.9% of the stuff will be gone that way. Smilie

hope that helps Smilie

If you installed from source code, I always thought you could do:

make deinstall

make uninstall

in the source directory - especially with Apache!
