File I/O error can also possibly mean a problem with the filesystem or the file.

IF you can mv (rename the file)
Code:
mv myfile myfile.old

Then get into an editor, copy & paste the contents of myfile.old into a brand new version of myfile. run sruInit.

Like Annihilannic, I'm trying to rule out things. IT's extremely hard to do by remote control.

ls - l filename:
-rw-r--r-- 1 s600 keithley 5677 Sep 9 15:26 QMO4353_2008-09-09_15:54:12.cal

Data will be appended to the file.

The file system is Solaris 8 with UFS with mounted NFS.

We have also empty out the cal file already.

But the problem still remains.

What we are planning to do next are:

a) Verify and compare the startup.ini with others tester to make sure no discrepancy.

b) Verify the “tip” script to make sure no changes make to this script.

c) Replace the SLOT0 board (Controller board) to make sure no hardware issue related.

d) Use “telnet TesterNo” command instead of “tip hardwire” to setup the communication between the application processor and slot zero controller and then run the calscript to make sure no serial port issue related.

e) Re-run the calibration using others tester calscript to make sure no corruption for the existing calscript.

Any other suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Are you sure it's the output file causing the File I/O Error? I would run the whole thing under truss -o /tmp/someoutputfile -aef .... to figure out exactly what system call on what file/device/socket is returning the error.

I'd say replacing the controller board is going a bit over the top... but I'm not sure exactly what kind of board we're talking about here.

Does sruInit by any chance read something from a pseudo-file? Could that handle be the one returning the error? Errors in an obscure device driver would seem like a more plausible explanation than a weird file system error which doesn't reproduce except when you run this command.

We finally got it to work by replacing the solaris workstation. But unfortunately we dont really know the root cause. As the system reside at customer, we are unable to get any system time.

To answer the some of the above. The calibration is performed in uucp environment, i.e. either in tip envionment or telnet to controller envronment with '->' prompt.

Therefore, truss command cannot be used.

sruInit is a command to the reference unit to initailise the sru.

Following sruInit, the following command will start the calibration,

-> < calscript

where calscript is a script file whereby all the calibration step are programmed inside.

We have also replaced this file from another tester but the problem still persists.

Perplexed, we replaced the solaris workstation & it works.
