I have only used it a few times, for scripting on a system without another "good" shell, and I like what I did see of it.
One of my pet peeves with bash is that this doesn't work:
echo Hello | read a; echo $a
For some reason, read doesn't take info from a pipe like ksh or posix shell...
zsh will handle that, on the other hand.

Apart from above, I don't have any interactive experience with it, so I can't say for sure - anyone else?

Using wildcards in variables in zsh

Probably a stupid question... how do I use a wildcard in a variable in zsh? If I do: var=* echo $var in bash, it will print all files/directories in the current directory. If I do it in zsh, it will only output an asterisk without the wildcard functionality. Thanks in advance! (1 Reply)
