Question

Hello everyone, I just installed Solaris 8 on an intel machine. I am having problems with the network adapter which is not being recognized by the device configuration asistant despite it being listed in the Solaris 8 Hardware Compatibility list. This card is a Linksys LNE100TX and it is the only card that was listed in the list that I could actually purchase. All of the others are either discontinued or are not available from the major retailers. There are no drivers for the Solaris OS in the driver diskette, however, there are linux and SCO5 drivers in it.

I understand that there is a way of searching for the driver manually like in the /boot/solaris/masterdb or something like that but I have no clue.

Has anyone been through this before? Is there a way of using the Linux or SCO drivers with Solaris?

If so, I would appreciate any help.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hardware compatibility means there is supported kernel code available, but that does not mean that the kernel driver code has been compilied into the core kernel. Some systems allow kernels to grab modules as required, but these modules must be compiled too!

No, you can't user SCO or Linux driver code with your Solaris systems. Kernel code is very specific and is generally platform specific. This is also true for device drivers.
