formatting hd for Solaris

Ok heres the situation
I bought Solaris 8 from Sun and I want to install in on my PC (bought the intel version)
do I have to format the hd (6 gig) before I install and is there a bootdisk around that could help me do that.
I formatted it with a win98 bootdisk and I ran into problems while installing Solaris
Please, any info would be much appreciated
thanx

Iam not an expert or anything but i had porblems installing windows after i uninstalled linux.U need fdisk.U need to delete all the partitions on your hd.Every partition including win32 (fat32 i think)Then you should have no problems installing Solaris. When u install solaris it will make its own partitions like linux does.

Iam not an expert but that whats i did.Maby you should ask for a second opinion first.

You shouldn't have to format the HD first. The Solaris x86 installation routine will ask you if you want to blow it away and setup the partitions.

What kind of problems did you run into installing Solaris? I found Solaris x86 to be extremely picky about the hardware it uses, including HD (which really surprised me).

If you wanted to dual boot, you need to have two separate partitions for Windows and Solaris.

Using Fdisk, make partitions, Format one partition for windows and install win98.

When you start installing Solaris, it will automatically identify the unformatted partition. If its a bootable CD, you dont need a boot disk.

Hope this helps!!!

If dual boot is to be done then Windows 9x/ME will need to be installed first. They don't play nice with other MBRs.

IIRC, there is some kind of boot manager with Solaris but don't remember for sure. It has been quite some time since I have installed Solaris x86.
