Pattern

Hi!

With rm I'd like to remove all files, except my *.tar

The same I'd like to do with ls. I'd like to display all files except the tars

Is that possible??

Those patterns are expanded by the shell. How complex the pattern can be is determined by the shell. With ksh, this is small change:
ls !(*.tar)

But I don't know of any other shell with that much power in its filename patterns. So unless you're using ksh, you will need to do something like:
ls `ls | grep -v '\.tar$'`
