Lightbulb sorry if this is a stupid question

Do you saying to alias "*pdf" to "ls *pdf"? Well, I'm going to have to lean to no, here's why:
When you type *pdf, the shell is going to try to execute everything ending in pdf. But if you escape the * with \, then the \ will also remove the meaning of the alias. It's a no-win situation.

Maybe you could try something else, like "alias lpdf='ls -d *pdf'"...

thanks LivinFree,
well, here i get some wild thoughts..

is it possible to have a program that runs on the shell which can identify some strings like this and execute them.. and if something else comes, just pass it on to the shell.

This is just a thought, eventhough I do not have much idea on compilers, I think of developing such a thing. Is that possible?

Thanks again.
