Does the programming language matter?

I see you guys encouraged people studied and used C while they were working on UNIX. Does C++ or JAVA matter? And in the past threads, Neo, PxT, and other members recommanded lots good books. I think those people who asked for the references, such as Dominic, had experiences on sys admin or programming already. So it is easy for them to pick up or study a new os or programming language, I think the concepts are about the same. Neo said that he had over 200 books related to the UNIX and c programming. Those books must be very specific, comprehensive, and complicated. As a newbie of all computer fields, me, just took my first step on C++ last months, what book I should read first, at the very, very, very beginning?

sincererly,

Houscous

visit the FAQ Section first to find out Book recommendations Etc. Or you may search the forum.. More then 100+ users asking this same question so the Forum boards make it a centralised Answer which you may find in FAQ Thread's.

Question You meant any one of them will be fine?

For example, it doesn't matter I begin with theUNIX Network Programming: Networking APIs: Sockets and XTI by Richard Stevens or UNIX Shell Programming by Stephen G. Kochan,Patrick H. Wood Sams? Or I should study TCP/IP first?

One book I found very helpful is the "Red Hat Bible" series. It will take you through everything from installing, to setting up servers, to basic shell scripting. It comes with whatever version of RedHat that the book is about (I think it's up to 7.2 now).

Great buy!
