rsync problem

Hi,
I wanna synchronize all the /etc settings from my previous server to new one. (Both of them are Debian Etch 4.0) I used this command:
rsync -r -vz -e ssh someuser@myOldServer:/etc /etc
&
rsync -avz -e ssh someuser@myOldServer:/etc /etc
These commands told me that everything occur perfectly (I received no errors), But when I checked the /etc/apache2/sites-available , nothings changed in the destination server.

Can anyone help me?

Have a look and see if you have a directory /etc/etc with the files you are expecting in there.

What are the dates on the source and target files?

The should be irrelvant. If the sizes don't match the files will be updated since the -u option is not specified and the -a is equivalent to -rlptgoD. Either command would result in the files being updated, but not
necessarily the other information like owership in the case of the first command.

Hmm, Yes! It copied all files from /etc in source into /etc/etc in the destination.
But I don't know why it behave like this? The last parameter is destination path. So It must be /etc not / . Am I right? (Sometimes you want to rsync /etc with /etcBack . So In this case we can't put / for the last parameter)

to do what you want add a / after the source dir name

rsync -r -vz -e ssh someuser@myOldServer:/etc/ /etc
