Generally speaking, anything you can do on Windows, you can do using Linux, and to a lesser extent other versions of Unix. Recommend purchasing a good introductory book on the subject. Check the FAQ section for some recommendations.

If you are experienced with Windows you should have no problem installing one of the major Linux distributions such as Mandrake or RedHat.

Netscape exists for Linux and other versions of Unix. Several other web-browsers are also available. Linux has KWord, AbiWord and more which resemble MS Word closely. There are also dozens of alternatives for playing MP3's (just as there are within Windows). Chekcout www.freshmeat.net to find lots of good Unix software.

excuse my ignorance but isn't thee a internet explorer for "A" kind of UNiX platform, thats what i always get to see when downloading an update on the IE. You get all kinds of options for O/S's and there's a unix one as well.. ? Kinda strange imo.
